Thermoplastic Road Marking Material

Thermoplastic road marking materials are one of the most common types of road marking based on its cost and sustainability. Thermoplastic materials usually come in 25kg bags of a dry mix, they are then heated to 200oC and mixed to the required colour and can be laid manually or by a machine. Thermoplastic markings are of high quality and outdo most other road marking materials, Thermoplastic provides excellent reflection properties at night and day and in wet conditions. Below is an image of the Thermoplastic boilers that we use to heat and mix to 200oC.

Thermoplastic is best suited to tarmac surfaces but can also be applied to concrete surfaces providing tack coat is applied before application. In most circumstances the curing time for thermoplastic is under a minute however if marking on concrete an extra 20 minutes can be added for the tack coat to dry.

Thermoplastic road marking paints are not suitable for most indoor surfaces including sports courts, underground car parks, factory floors or polished concrete surfaces. Application will always fail where there is pot holes or cracks.

Road Marking Group also provide Preform Thermoplastic Markings, These range from precise lettering and numbering to bespoke company logos as well as educational playground designs.  The preform is pieced together and heated to the ground until it makes a solid bond. Below is an idea of the bespoke thermoplastic preform markings that are available on request.
